Asian Meatballs

A unique twist to regular meatballs would be a little Asian spice. Experiencing around the kitchen, we decided to concoct hoisin sauce, soy sauce and rice wine vinegar to give our taste buds a kick. You could also use this as an appetizer because the amount it makes can serve about 20-25 depending on size.

Directions

1. Combine the ground sirloin and ground turkey (or ground pork) into a bowl

2. Add the 2 eggs and 2 tbsp. of garlic and mix well.

3.Grease the baking pan

4. Heat the oven to 400 and begin to roll the meat mixture together until the consistency sticks together about golf-ball size. This mixture will make about 20-25 meatballs.

5.Place the meatballs on the greased pan about ½ inch apart from one another.

6. Cook for 20-25 minutes. You can test to see if it’s done by using a meat thermometer, or do it the old fashion way by cutting the biggest one in half to see if it’s cooked all the way through. (Yes, we had to do this)

7. While the meatballs are cooking, begin to make your sauce by combining 2 tbsp. of soy sauce, 1 tsp. of sesame oil, 2/3 cup of hoisin, ¼ cup of rice wine vinegar, 1 tsp. of garlic in a bowl and whisk together.

8. Once the meatballs are done, begin to pour the sauce over the meatballs while they are still warm.

9. The reason for the fat melting off the meatballs onto the pan is because of the turkey meat we used is a leaner meat. I might recommend using ground pork instead to avoid a dryer texture that the turkey can bring out.

10. However, I will say they did turn out to be delicious and would be a great meat to add to your dinner or to serve at your next party.

Ingredients

1 lb ground turkey meat (or ground pork)

1lb of ground sirloin

2 tbsp. minced garlic

¼ Cup rice wine vinegar

2 eggs

2 tsp. soy sauce

1 tsp. sesame oil

2/3 cup hoisin sauce
