Modern homes are built to keep warm air trapped within your home during the winter months, or to capture cool air during the summer months. The insulation within modern homes is made to keep your home feeling comfortable at all times, so as to let in as little outside air as possible. This is a good thing when it comes to temperature control, however it can be harmful. Because of the high quality insulation within modern homes, more and more contaminants are also trapped in our living environments. According to the Environmental Protection Agency, (EPA), studies show that the air inside most new homes is usually at least ten times more polluted than outside air. This is quite disconcerting. Because our homes are more “air-tight”, stale air becomes trapped inside our homes with us.

Their deep pleated construction enables them to capture and reduce the presence of these pollutants.

They are given a MERV rating to help consumers compare and decide which filter is best suitable for their environment. MERV stands for minimum efficiency reporting value. Ruud® media filters can be purchased with MERV ratings of 8, 11 and 13. Basically, the higher the MERV rating is, the more efficient the filter.
