The Indoor Monster
Many people do not realize that indoor air pollution is one of the leading causes of breathing problems like asthma and allergies. Electrostatic Filtration - The Totaline® Media Filters are whole house filters that are available as electrostatic or carbon filtration. Electrostatic filtration is a type of filtration that uses an electrostatically charged filter media to remove airborne particulates. As air passes through the electrostatically charged filter, the oppositely charged particles are attracted to the filter media and trapped there. This is a highly efficient type of filtration and is rated by MERV.
MERV Rating - MERV is the minimum efficiency reporting value, which is the scale designed by the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating, and Air Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE) to rate the effectiveness of air filters. The higher MERV rating indicates higher filtering performance. The Totaline® Media Filters are available as MERV 8, MERV 11, or MERV 13. The MERV 8 and MERV 11 filters remove particulates like dust mites, mold spores, pet dander, pollen, tobacco smoke, and bacteria; the MERV 13 removes the same particulates, but it also removes some viruses.
Carbon Filtration - The other type of filtration available as the Totaline® Media Filters is carbon filtration. Most regular particulate filters are unable to trap tiny odor particles. Activated carbon, which is a carbon source (charcoal or coconut shell) treated with oxygen, traps tiny odor particles, smoke, and gaseous vapors in its tiny, highly absorbent pores. This carbon filter is great for reducing common household odors like cooking odors, garbage odors, musty odors, pet odors, etc.
Gasketing
These Totaline® Media Filters contain gasketing, which is made of a foam-like material. This special gasketing allows the filters to fit more snugly, which allows less air to escape around the edges of the filter. This means higher efficiency and more pure air delivery!
