Accumulair® Carbon

Introduction

Accumulair® filters are air filters designed to filter the entire household. Accumulair® manufactures over 185 sizes of air filters, offering a large variety of standard sizes for 1", 2", 4", and 6" depths, as well as 1/2". Accumulair® also offers custom made filters to fit any filter system. These filters come in four different types, each based on MERV ratings. They use electrostatic filtration to remove air pollutants like dust, pet dander, pollen, mold, smoke, and bacteria from the home. However, they are unable to trap odors.

Odors are extremely tiny gas particles that accumulate in houses with poor air ventilation. Most filters, including the Accumulair® electrostatic filters, are unable to trap odors. However, odors can be removed by carbon filtration. The Accumulair® Carbon filter is specifically designed for the purpose of removing and reducing common household odors.

The Accumulair® Carbon filter uses carbon filtration to absorb odors and to reduce airborne allergens like dust particles and pet dander. This filter is great for creating a fresher-smelling indoor environment free of unpleasant odors. It removes common household odors like cooking odors, tobacco odors, and pet odors. Like other Accumulair® filters, the Accumulair® Carbon filters last up to three months, depending on air quality and other factors. They come in over 100 standard sizes, but they can also be custom made to fit virtually any filter system without necessary modifications.

Construction:

  • Activated carbon impregnated filter media
  • Pleated shape
  • Low resistance to airflow
  • Recyclable, galvanized, corrosion resistant metal backing
  • Two piece heavy duty die cut frame

The Accumulair® Carbon filter is constructed of a special activated carbon impregnated filter media. The special pleated shape of the filter media allows for maximum odor capturing capacity and also lowers resistance to airflow. The pleated carbon media is laminated to a recyclable, galvanized, and corrosion resistant metal backing that adds strength to the filter. The pleated media pack is then bonded to the inside of a two piece heavy duty die cut frame that protects the filter against warping and bending from the heavy pressure of airflow. This die cut frame is also designed with diagonal and horizontal grid supports that add stronger durability and extra support.

How It Works:

The Accumulair® Carbon filter utilizes its special construction and filtration media to trap odors, gaseous vapors, and allergens like dust particles. As air flows through the HVAC system, the Accumulair® Carbon filter traps these particles using the special properties of the activated carbon impregnated media.

Activated Carbon

Carbon becomes activated when a carbon source, such as charcoal or coconut shell, is treated with steam. This process creates millions of extremely tiny pores that are highly absorbent, which allows the carbon to trap tiny particles like odors and gases that other filters are unable to trap. In addition, this activated carbon, non-woven polyester filter media is impregnated with an additional chemical, a chemisorbent, that increases the filter’s ability to trap gaseous particles. For example, this filter is impregnated with 150% carbon add-on.

The unique media of the Accumulair® Carbon filter means that it does not just reduce odors. Impregnating activated charcoal on a dust filtration media allows this filter to trap allergens and particles while also absorbing odors, smoke, and other gaseous contaminants. This keeps not only a fresher environment but a healthier one, as well. It is important to remember to keep this filter replaced regularly. The pores become filled as they absorb contaminants, eventually ending the filter life. How often the filter should be replaced is dependent on several factors, including rate of airflow and air quality, but it should be replaced roughly every three months to ensure maximum performance.

Special Use

The Accumulair® Carbon filters can be used anywhere—for the household, office, restaurant, or school, etc. They can be installed in any existing filter system and are great for both residential and commercial use. They also make great pre-filters for trapping odors and allergens before they enter the main filter, which allows for longer filter life and higher filtration efficiency.

FAQ

What is an Accumulair Filter? The brand Accumulair has been around more than 10 years. Accumulair makes high quality aftermarket filters right here in the USA! Accumulair air filters are chemical free so you never have to worry about the addition of unnecessary chemicals to your air. Furthermore, the Accumulair filter material is designed so that it will not support the development of mold, mildew, bacteria, or other microorganisms in normal use. So if you are looking for a way to help reduce airborne allergens such as bacteria, particles that carry viruses, pollen, mold spores, fine dust, and pet dander then an Accumulair air filter is for you! Accumulair...as essential as the air you breathe!

Why are there two sizes for each filter? In the filter industry, there are two sizes, the Nominal Size and the Actual Size. The Nominal Size is the advertised or listed size of a filter. This is usually printed on the filter and a whole number, like 16x20x1. However, most of the time the filter will measure something different, the Actual Size. Actual Size is the true, measured size of a filter. If the Actual Size is listed or printed on the filter it will typically be in parenthesis or in smaller font. The Actual Size is typically a fraction like 16.5 x 19.5 x 0.75. ***When purchasing a filter, be sure you are getting the correct Actual Size. Sometimes there is more than one actual size to nominal size.***

What do I do if I ordered the wrong filter? Ordered the wrong filter? No problem! Simply fill out this Return Form and send back the filter. There is no limit on when the return must be processed. For more information see our Return Policy.

What is MERV? MERV means Minimum Efficiency Reporting Value which was developed by the American Society of Heating, Refrigeration and Air Conditioner Engineers, ASHRAE. The higher the MERV rating the more efficient the filter will be at capturing airborne particles. Please check with your HVAC specialist as to what MERV rating is best for your system.

What is the MERV rating of Carbon filters? The main use of the Carbon filter is to remove odors from the air. The filters are made with a carbon impregnated media and are not electrostatically charged. The Carbon filter does not have a MERV rating. If you want to remove odors such as cigarette smoke or cooking fumes then the Carbon filter is perfect for you. If you are wanting the best filtration possible then choose a MERV rated filter, remember the higher the MERV, the best the filtration!
