Accumulair® Diamond Half Inch Filters

What are Accumulair® Filters?

Accumulair® filters are air filters designed to filter the entire household. They each are electrostatically charged, come with a specially designed pleated shape, and last up to three months. Accumulair® manufactures over 200 sizes of air filters, offering a large variety of standard sizes for 1", 2", 4", and 6" depths, as well as 1/2". Accumulair® also offers custom made filters to fit any filter system.

Accumulair® offers five different types of filters:

What is APR?

APR stands for Accumulair® Performance Rating. This rating has been established by the manufacturer of the Accumulair® Filters. This rating exists to demonstrate the different levels of efficiency throughout the Accumulair® filter line. Generally speaking, the higher the APR, the better the filter performs in capturing small airborne particles. This rating system is an internal rating system and applies to Accumulair® filters only.

The Accumulair® Diamond is one of the highest efficiency Accumulair® filter on the market. Given an APR 1950 filter rating, this filter is a high efficiency filter that removes particulates measuring from 0.3 microns to 1.0 microns. This means that this filter removes a large variety of indoor air pollutants, including dust mites/particles, mold spores, pet dander, pollen, tobacco smoke, some viruses, and all bacteria. Accumulair® Diamond filters use electrostatic filtration, which uses a special synthetic filter media to attract particles. With a dust spot efficiency of 89-90%, the Accumulair® Diamond is more than 30 times more efficient than regular fiberglass filters and has a filter efficiency almost equivalent to a true HEPA filter.

The Accumulair® Diamond is specifically designed to achieve points towards LEED certification. LEED, Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design, is an organization that rates projects delivering better environmental and health performance. Accumulair® Diamond filters do this by providing higher efficiency, cleaner air, and longer-lasting filtration. When constructing the Accumulair® Diamond, even the smallest details are important for designing the best that Accumulair® has to offer.

Made of 100% high performance Tribo-Electric synthetic media, the Accumulair® Diamond takes electrostatic filtration to the next level. This special material, made of a co-polymer blend, creates higher efficiency with low resistance to air flow. These specially made fibers are also hydrophobic, meaning they will not absorb moisture, and they will not support the growth of harmful microbes like bacteria, mildew, fungi, and mold.

The pleated shape of the filter is specially designed to maximize air flow and particle-holding capacity. To increase durability, the pleated media is laminated to a metal backing that is recyclable, galvanized, and corrosion resistant. The pleated media is then bonded to the inside of a two-piece die cut frame constructed of a heavy duty, moisture resistant, clay coated board that has diagonal and horizontal grid supports.

How It Works

The Accumulair® Diamond is composed of a Tribo-Electric synthetic media, which is a special blend of cotton/polymer micro-fibers that have the ability to “self-charge” when the two fibers, which are oppositely charged, are rubbed together. This creates a strong electric field that super-enhances the fibers’ ability to trap air particulates, producing a media with superior filtration capabilities. The micro-fibers are vertically needled into the material, which results in high permeability and low resistance to air flow.

Accumulair® Diamond filters are offered in many standard filter sizes, but they can be custom made to fit virtually any filter system. These filters provide superior filtration for commercial and industrial use, such as in hospitals, general surgery, inpatient care, commercial buildings, and schools. They also work well as pre-filters for more expensive, higher efficiency filter systems like a laboratory, cleanroom, or pharmaceutical.

Accumulair® Diamond filters generally need replacing every three months, but filter life depends on several factors. For example, air quality, rate of air flow, and types of pollutants can all have an impact on the filter life. After time, pollutants begin to accumulate around the electrostatic fibers, which lowers efficiency and eventually leads to clogging, so it is important to remember to keep the filter replaced at least every three months.

What is an Accumulair Filter? The brand Accumulair has been around more than 10 years. Accumulair makes high quality aftermarket filters right here in the USA! Accumulair air filters are chemical free so you never have to worry about the addition of unnecessary chemicals to your air. Furthermore, the Accumulair filter material is designed so that it will not support the development of mold, mildew, bacteria, or other microorganisms in normal use. So if you are looking for a way to help reduce airborne allergens such as bacteria, particles that carry viruses, pollen, mold spores, fine dust, and pet dander then an Accumulair air filter is for you! Accumulair...as essential as the air you breathe!

Why are there two sizes for each filter? In the filter industry, there are two sizes, the Nominal Size and the Actual Size. The Nominal Size is the advertised or listed size of a filter. This is usually printed on the filter and a whole number, like 16x20x1. However, most of the time the filter will measure something different, the Actual Size. Actual Size is the true, measured size of a filter. If the Actual Size is listed or printed on the filter it will typically be in parenthesis or in smaller font. The Actual Size is typically a fraction like 16.5 x 19.5 x 0.75. ***When purchasing a filter, be sure you are getting the correct Actual Size. Sometimes there is more than one actual size to nominal size.***

What is MERV? MERV means Minimum Efficiency Reporting Value which was developed by the American Society of Heating, Refrigeration and Air Conditioner Engineers, ASHRAE. The higher the MERV rating the more efficient the filter will be at capturing airborne particles. Please check with your HVAC specialist as to what MERV rating is best for your system.

What is the MERV rating of Carbon filters? The main use of the Carbon filter is to remove odors from the air. The filters are made with a carbon impregnated media and are not electrostatically charged. The Carbon filter does not have a MERV rating. If you want to remove odors such as cigarette smoke or cooking fumes then the Carbon filter is perfect for you. If you are wanting the best filtration possible then choose a MERV rated filter, remember the higher the MERV, the best the filtration!
